we've got snow here. pretty normal conditions. it's cold also. in the past 25 years we had winters with no snow at all followed by winters with incredible loads of snow.
i think you can only measure global warming on glaciers and the poles. but given that they found fossils of palmtrees in antarctica, we are only facing something the earth already has seen several times. as for the dangers - humanity was not meant to stay here forever anyway.

the worst part ist, when my parents retire and me, the materialist, will have to support them, they'll most probably view it as a blessing of jehovah. o0

A Christian we could all learn from.....
by sweetstuff ini just watched a movie about william wilberforce, who i had no prior knowledge of, great movie, amazing grace and given the large amount of debate lately on here regarding christianity versus atheisim, i thought what better example of someone who's religious beliefs drove him to make improvements for all of mankind.
i am not a christian, but i think if we all tried to more humanitarian like this man, only good could come from it .
he is someone to me, that embodies all that christanity should be, by his actions.. perhaps he would have become the same man, without christianity, perhaps not.

> I'm having a bad feeling that the human race is facing a tragic natural calamity.
maybe humanity itself is a natural disaster. maybe we are a virus to this universe. would explain a lot. but wouldn't change a thing. -

Apostate Presence Rattles World Conference on Religion
by SickofLies ini know many of you probably never saw my post a few days ago inviting everyone to the world religions conference where i was a key note speaker.
i'd like to send a big thank you to kwintestal and mincan for showing and giving their support, surfice to say it made quite an impression that the three people standing up and defending atheism at the event were all ex-witnesses.
the theme for the event was on the topic of morals and modesty.

it's a common misconception that atheism is a belief system. it's not. being an atheist simply means, not believing in supernatural beings. nothing less, nothing more. there is no ideology involved.
a growing number of humanists feel the need to open their mouths, because all hard and long fought for liberties are endangered by religious fundamentalists. i'm not saying "all religious people are the same" or "all christians are preachy". neither are atheists.
liberal theists should actually join the humanists on their mission. it's pretty clear what happens when religion takes control over governments. you can see that in the middle east, you can see that in several african countries and you can see it in the US.
and even if it wasn't about laicité, children should learn real science in school, not some hocus-pocus. how'd you feel if your children learned the flat earth as a fact. may sound funny, but this is not the middle ages anymore. -

they told me i wouldn't have to go to school. later they told me i wouldn't have to search a job. i even heard someone say "if the year 2k passes and armageddon has not come, the bible is wrong" (well... the bible is wrong anyway, so what ;P)

Creationism is Stupid, Stupid, STOOOOPID!
by Farkel inok. i used to believe in creationism even after i left the dubs.
i was a braindead window washer at the time.
i don't believe in creationism now, but i do believe in a creator and that is different.

> I don't equate believing in God as stupid or unscientific
of course believing in god is unscientific. science is not about faith. that some scientists do believe in something they call "god" is another story. -

yes, people have the right to believe whatever nonsense they want.
but it's also a given fact, that agents of religions run around trying to convert the unprepared. and because of this, because religions are so vocal, atheists HAVE to give a reply. this is no crusade, this is active defense. -

religious lobbyists are trying to gain power and control over secular achievements. they try to put their foot into schools to teach children unscientific ideas instead of real biology. religious people walk around advertising their faith. they are EVERYWHERE!
it's about time secularists and atheists/agnostics open their mouth. this is not about not respecting ones personal belief, it's about saving humanity from going back to the middle ages. it's about progress. it's about making people think for themselves instead of blindly following some belief that wastes precious time at best and precious lives at worst. -

some diehard hardliner jerks. a few very nice guys. one or two "reaching out" types. one who was open to discussion and was not as (d/n)umb as the others. we had many interesting discussions, but in the end i could not understand how someone as intelligent and informed as him could serve the borg in that position.

i also have the opinion, that "good" people would do "good" and "bad" people do "bad" things, regardless of religious belief or ideology. however, religion and ideology make "good" people do "bad" things far too often.
